Commonly used materials at ZFoam include cross-linked and non-cross-linked polyethylene foams. Next, we will talk about them in detail.

Differences between cross-linked and non-cross-linked foams

We have to make a difference between cross-linked and non-cross-linked foams. Crosslinking is a physical or chemical reaction between polymer chains to link them together, a process that results in a foam with better tightness, greater flexibility, insulation capacity, cell homogeneity and high durability.

On the other hand, in non-crosslinked foams, gas is used for their expansion. Non-cross-linked foams have densities from 20 to 150Kg / m³, while cross-linked ones have a density from 25 to 300 Kg / m³.

Both foams can be provided in the form of rolls or plates.

What is expanded polyethylene?

Expanded polyethylene is a polyolefin based on polyethylene. For their expansion or foaming process, a physical or chemical agent is used. The density of the foam is determined by the amount of agents present in the formulation. In general, the higher the expansion index, the lower the foam density.

Thanks to their versatility, these foams offer the possibility of manufacturing a large number of products both for sectors such as sports or automotive, as well as to be used in the protection of electrical and electronic products, as well as in packaging, for example.

Expanded polyethylene also offers interesting properties, that makes it well suited for thermal insulation or impact protection and it is also a recyclable and high durable material.

ZFoam, polyethylene foam transformer in Spain

From the raw materials that we receive in the form of sheets, blocks or rolls, in ZFoam, we manufacture a wide range of final products targeted to different and demanding sectors. We use different types of semi-conversion (splitting, laminating, butt-welding, adhesive coating or laminating different substrates, among others) and conversion (routing, water cutting, CNC cutting, wire cutting, thermoforming, die-cutting, cutting in strips, digital or laser printing)…
