The use of sustainable materials is increasing among our customers and is also part of our own commitment: to contribute to the preservation of the environment by using more and more plant-based, recycled and recyclable materials.

Using plant-based foams: a big step forward

One of our customers, a manufacturer of cases for computers, tablets, mobile phones and other equipment with a significant market share, asked us for a more sustainable material to produce their items.

This company had been using traditional polyethylene foam of fossil origin for a long time to provide rigidity and to give shape to their cases and, at ZFoam, after evaluating and testing different options, we offered them to work with foams of vegetable origin from forestry waste, which, in addition to being sustainable, are certified according to the ISCC (International Sustainability Carbon Certification) standard and absorb CO2 from the atmosphere during their production process.

Due to the great environmental responsibility of our client, as well as our own, and despite the fact that this change implied a considerable increase in costs, we have chosen the use of these BIO foams even at the cost of reducing our margins due to the benefits they represent.

Recycle, innovate, move forward

However, there was still a problem to be solved, our customer had material in stock from old models that were no longer for sale. To solve this problem, ZFoam proposed to recycle this material free of charges and to issue a certificate for the process.

In this phase, we shred the material into pieces of 4 and 5 cm length and then press it with different binders.

As a result, we obtain pieces that are used as sub-base for artificial grass football pitches and other sports, a very technical material that is in full swing.

At ZFoam we are clearly committed to the use of sustainable foams in our manufacturing processes, this is an important advance that brings with it a host of benefits. https://www.zfoam.com/
